Neuschwanstein (a quicky)
The castle the Walt Disney based the Dinsey castle on. Originally commisioned by King Ludwig of Bavaria like about 200 years ago.... so having trouble remembeing details now as it´s over a week since I was there, really should write this stuff down...
Anyways, King Ludwig lived in his fathers castle for 17 years while hi new castle (Neushwanstein) was being built - it wasn´t even complete when he moved in and was only there for about 6 months when the local government declared him mentally unstable, and mysteriously he was drowned a week later - a death still unsolved to this day. Apparently the physicians that declared him mentally unfit had never even met him.... sounds like a bit of a setup.
So anyways.... 17 years waitings for his dream castle, and he only stayed there for less than 6 months... poor bugger. It´s an amazing castle though. got some íllegal´pics inside the castle, including a great one of this fresco of St George slaying a dragon!! Need to print that one out for the boyz, hey Phill!?!?
Awesome countryside, awesome castle - and onlz a 2 hour train ride from Munich... EACH WAY, good thing I had all day. Met these two US guys; one worked for the DoD in the states and test pilot engineer and the other was a marine based at the US Luxembourg Embassy. Crayz couple of boys (brothers actually), went for beers at Oktoberfest when we got back to Munich before my night train to Prague... kinda cool really. Helped the sleep on the crappy train!!
